Overview BLASTRONAUT:

It is a dangerous but lucrative job. Explore this vast procedurally generated world with your jetpack. Extract the minerals with an explosive gel. Expand your mining platform. But most importantly: stay alive. The depths of the planet hide many unique biomes and treasures, but also dangers. Every biome has its own way to harm you and having the right set of gear will make your life much easier. On the ground, you can build your base of operation. Different machines allow you to process and trade the resources that you have brought from your last mining operation. Blastronaut combines the Terrariabound genre of games (and yes, I made that term up 5 seconds ago) with those mining games you used to play on Flash game websites. Imagine Starbound but with Motherload’s fuel and upgrade mechanics. The artstyle reminds me of Risk of Rain 1 and the upcoming spiritual successor to Starbound known as Outworlder, with some Cave Story mixed in. In my opinion, it neatly fits the game and is actually pretty cute, for the lack of a better word.

BLASTRONAUT Pre-Installed:

The ore progression is simple and gradual, with some other resources randomly sprinkled through the map. You can use these to make money, buy/craft better weapons and upgrades for your gear and materials to create more and better machines. The controls also function just fine. Getting used to jumping with spacebar and using the jetpack with RMB takes some getting used to, but is otherwise a good way to make you not use fuel by accident. Protip: aim a laser weapon at the ground press space+both mouse buttons at the same time to launch yourself into the air. I’ve only played a few hours so far, and I know this is Early Access so it’s difficult to give a full assessment. I might update my review over time as I play more and the game keeps evolving. But the review question is “Do you recommend this game?” and heck yeah, it’s glorious already! I really enjoy the art and the mining/exploration. It’s fairly well balance ever for EA, and there’s quite a few things to discover and materials/buildings/items to craft. Haven’t had time to try multiplayer yet but I’m eager to, that should be really fun with friends.
